Delhi Metro — The Backbone of the City

The Delhi Metro is not just a transport system — it is the reason millions of people can live, work and study across a 1,484 sq km city without depending on road traffic. With 288 stations across 13 lines, it connects Central Delhi to the farthest corners of Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad and Ghaziabad. Whether you are heading to Connaught Place, Chandni Chowk, Cyber City in Gurugram or the DLF offices in Noida — the metro gets you there faster and cheaper than any other option.

What Every Station Guide on This Page Covers

Every station guide published on thenewdelhi.in is built around the questions real commuters actually ask. You will find:

  • First and last train timings — weekday and weekend, direction-wise
  • All exit gates with destination mapping — so you exit the right gate every time
  • Full fare chart from that station to the most common destinations
  • Complete route map for the line — both directions listed
  • Interchange guide — where to switch lines and how to walk between platforms
  • Nearby places within 5, 10 and 15 minutes — walking and auto
  • Parking, feeder buses and DTC bus routes nearby
  • Accessibility information — lifts, ramps, Divyang facilities

Delhi Metro Smart Card — Save 10% on Every Trip

If you travel by Delhi Metro more than once a week, a Smart Card (stored value card) is essential. You get a flat 10% discount on every journey, skip the token queue, and tap in and out faster. Cards are available at any metro station customer service counter for a refundable deposit of Rs. 100, and can be recharged at any station, online or via the DMRC app. Our Delhi Metro Smart Card guide covers everything — how to get one, recharge options, lost card procedure and maximum balance limits.

How to Read Delhi Metro Station Codes

Every Delhi Metro station has a unique 2–4 letter station code displayed on platforms and in the DMRC app. For example, RCK is Rajiv Chowk, NDD is New Delhi, and HCC is Huda City Centre. These codes also indicate which line a station is on and help you identify your position on the network quickly. All station guides on this page include the station code at the top for quick reference.

Peak Hours and When to Avoid Crowds

Delhi Metro peak hours are 8:00 AM – 10:30 AM and 5:30 PM – 9:00 PM on weekdays. Stations like Rajiv Chowk, Kashmere Gate, and Botanical Garden handle over 2 lakh passengers daily and become extremely crowded during these windows. If your schedule is flexible, travelling between 11:00 AM and 4:30 PM offers a far more comfortable experience — shorter queues, easier boarding and a seat almost guaranteed.

Delhi Metro to IGI Airport — Step-by-Step

The fastest way to reach Indira Gandhi International Airport is the Airport Express Line (Orange Line). Board at New Delhi Metro Station, and the non-stop express reaches Terminal 3 in approximately 19 minutes. Fare from New Delhi station is Rs. 60. The service runs from approximately 4:45 AM to 11:30 PM. Our Airport Express guide covers every detail — baggage allowance, in-station check-in facilities and the connection from other parts of Delhi.

Frequently Asked Questions — Delhi Metro
Answers to the most commonly searched questions about Delhi Metro routes, timings and travel
How many metro stations are there in Delhi in 2026?+
As of 2026, Delhi Metro has 288 stations across 13 lines operated by DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) and some partner networks including Noida Metro (Aqua Line) and Rapid Metro Gurugram. The network spans approximately 392 km and covers Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad and Ghaziabad. We have individual guides for every major station — browse by line using the filter above.
What are the Delhi Metro operating hours — first and last train timing?+
Most Delhi Metro lines operate from approximately 5:30 AM to 11:30 PM. However, exact timings vary significantly by station, line and direction. For example, the Yellow Line's last train from Huda City Centre is at 12:30 AM (midnight), while some Blue Line trains run until 12:09 AM. Always check the exact timing in the individual station guide or on the DMRC official website before travelling. Every station guide on this page lists direction-wise first and last train timings.
Which is the longest and which is the shortest Delhi Metro line?+
The Pink Line (Line 7) is the longest Delhi Metro line at approximately 59 km with 38 stations, running from Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar. The Grey Line is the shortest at 4.7 km with just 3 stations (Dwarka to Dhansa Bus Stand). The busiest line by ridership is the Blue Line, which carries the most passengers daily due to its Noida–Dwarka corridor.
How do I get from Delhi Metro to IGI Airport?+
Take the Airport Express Line (Orange Line) from New Delhi Metro Station directly to IGI Airport Terminal 3. The journey takes approximately 19 minutes and the fare is Rs. 60. The service runs from around 4:45 AM to 11:30 PM. New Delhi station is on the Yellow Line, so you can connect from almost anywhere in Delhi. Alternatively, if you are coming from Dwarka or South Delhi, catch the Airport Express from Dwarka Sector 21. Check our Airport Express guide for full details.
What is the difference between a metro token and a Smart Card?+
A token is a single-use ticket for one journey — you pay full price each time. A Smart Card (stored value card) is rechargeable and gives you a 10% discount on every journey, no queuing at the token counter, and faster tap-in/tap-out. Smart Cards cost Rs. 100 as a refundable deposit and can be recharged at stations, online or via the DMRC app. If you travel by metro more than twice a week, the Smart Card pays for itself quickly.
Which Delhi Metro line goes to Noida and Gurugram?+
To Noida: take the Blue Line toward Noida Electronic City or Vaishali. Major Noida stations include Botanical Garden, Sector 18, Noida City Centre and Noida Electronic City. To Gurugram: take the Yellow Line toward Huda City Centre / Millennium City Centre. Major Gurugram stations include IFFCO Chowk, MG Road, Sikandarpur, Guru Dronacharya and Huda City Centre. The Airport Express also serves Gurugram via Dwarka Sector 21.
Are Delhi Metro stations accessible for wheelchair users and senior citizens?+
Yes — all Delhi Metro stations are designed to be fully accessible. Every station has lifts, escalators, wheelchair ramps, tactile paths for visually impaired passengers, and Divyang-friendly toilets. Reserved seats are available in every coach for senior citizens, women and differently-abled passengers. DMRC staff are available at all entry gates for assistance. The individual station guides also note specific accessibility features at each station.
What items are not allowed on the Delhi Metro?+
Delhi Metro has a strict security screening at every station. Items not allowed include: flammable or explosive materials, weapons, large liquids (over 1 litre), durians and other pungent food items, and anything that fails the X-ray screening. All passengers must pass through a security scanner — bags go through the X-ray machine and passengers through a metal detector. The process is quick at off-peak hours but can take 5–10 minutes during rush hour at busy stations like Rajiv Chowk and Kashmere Gate.
